Professional Development Presentations

2022

I began the year as a teacher, loving her job, reaching out to other educators, savouring time with my students. I had a lot of fun exploring how Adobe and Google could be used to leverage technology to enhance student outcomes and it lead me to a new opportunity.

Since joining Datacom, I have led several days of PD in NSW and QLD and been the opening keynote speaker at the WATSSA Conference in Perth. I've attended EDUTECH, spoken at the QSITE Conference in Brisbane, and contributed to a transformational program that looks to help teachers in a data, policy, and Australian research-driven program. I could never have imagined in January, just how my life would change. I'm creating a blog to explore the shift from long-term classroom teacher to this national role. Watch this space!

Playing detective: Gathering Evidence for the NCCD

In this episode, I share some ideas for building evidence for the National Consistent Collection of Data. You can find the links to the NCCD Portal, document, as well as the Mpantewe Education Declaration that guides the legeslation. Student work was shown with their consent.

Check out these episodes and how you can use the Australian Teachers Professional Standards as a reflective and reflexive tool for a focussed exploration of Teaching Standards.

I have been involved in both running and participating in the Asia-Europe Foundation's ClassNet Projects since late 2018. Recently I was asked to contribute to an upcoming Asia-Europe Foundation publication based on Pedagogical Practice and in my case, ways of building an inclusive classroom. Keep your eyes peeled for further updates. I will add a link when it is launched. You can see my past participation by clicking the ASEF logo.

I Presented in Helsinki in 2018, lead my first project in 2019 which achieved a Gold Award presented in Tokyo in 2019, and I continued with a second project in 2020. You will find more information by exploring my ASEF pages

2021

This year has been a busy one with a number of presentations. I delivered a workshop in the September holidays, on creating global connections with Adobe Spark, at the QSITE Conference in Toowoomba, with the fabulous John Bowdern, at Mt Lofty. There have also been a number of apperances in the fortnightly Inject Creativity with Dr Tim Kitchen and Erin Raethke, as well as two presentations at the APAC Adobe Education Leader Summit during the September holidays. Adobe Max, the vast international conference was also a highlight and it was really exciting to work with Matt Niemitz of Adobe, and Jessica Cambell, a US teacher.

Generally, people don't associate Religious Education or necessarily, English as subjects that might use digital tools in more creative ways than digitally inking, however, that is far from my reality. Watch from 23:14 to see me talk about using Adobe Spark in the classroom and international projects around the UN sustainable development goals..

Asia-Europe Foundation Project Look in-reach out

On November 13 2020 I co-presented a two hour webinar with Alexia Micallef Gatt on the importance of leveraging student engagement with digital technologies; the importance of teachers as learners in their classrooms, and the critical need for creating a participatory culture where students become participants and not passengers in their lives and world issues. You can find the video below.

Work with the Asia-Europe Foundation Education continues and I have recently held webinars with teachers and Grade 6 students at St Mark's School in New Delhi, discussing the Sustainable Development Goals. The feedback in the image above came from one of the students. Working with students around the globe reminds me that we have so many more similarities than differences and sharing time and ideas is fulfilling.

Exploring the implications of using technological disruption to enhance learning about our humanity and need for education for sustainable development at the Asia-Europe Foundation ClassNet 15 in Tokyo.

I was incredibly lucky to meet Sir Ken Robinson at EduTECH 2019 in Sydney. I'd seen him a number of times and while it was only a brief few minutes, I was touched by his interest in what I was doing with my Writers Club and the experience of the forty or so members.

He remains one of my favourite educational visionaries. Losing him does not mean losing his legacy.
